Dr. Gary L. Wood

Dr. Gary L. Wood owns Barbur Blvd. Veterinary Hospital and Cardiology Northwest.  He received his DVM degree from Colorado State University in 1973.  Dr. Wood then travelled east for his internship at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston.  He completed a residency in cardiovascular medicine at the University of California at Davis.

Dr. Wood was granted Diplomate status by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in the specialty of Cardiology in 1978.  Since that time, Dr. Wood has been a pioneer of private specialty practice in the Pacific Northwest and enjoys a reputation for excellence and service with veterinarians and clients throughout the region.  When not at the clinic, Dr. Wood is an avid fly fisherman and fly tier.  He and his wife Barb share their home with a pug named Lucy.

Dr. Kathryn Atkinson

Dr Atkinson is a board certified Diplomate of the American college of Veterinary Internal Medicine specialty of cardiology.  She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ontario Veterinary College, where she also pursued a one-year rotating small animal internship.  She also completed a three year residency in veterinary cardiology and a Master of Science degree at the University of Missouri.  Her professional career includes four years practicing general and emergency medicine in Ottawa and Vancouver. She has published several papers in the veterinary scientific literature. Her areas of special interest include congenital heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, management of congestive heart failure and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.  Dr. Atkinson,  her husband, Tom, and their young daughter Elise share their home with "Lucy," a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, "Wenckebach," a Doberman Pinscher, and two Devon Rex cats, “Dulcey” and “Clifford”. In her spare time, Dr. Atkinson enjoys culinary pursuits as well as the outdoor activities the Pacific Northwest offers.
